Market Review
Buying continues. The FBM KLCI sustained its uptrend, closing 4.67 points higher, supported by gains across heavyweight stocks such as CIMB, KLK, PPB and Tanjong Today’s corporate headlines include BNM hinting that any increase in interest rates would be gradual, while no changes to the statutory reserve is expected, Public Bank has indicated that it does not plan to raise fresh capital this year, Shim Kon Teck, the Chief operating officer of Alliance Bank Malaysia has resigned, Kawan Food has appointed a new CEO, Jon Fang Nee, CIMB Group has obtained approval from Vietnam’s Securities Commission for its subscription of an equity interest in Vinashin Shipbuilding Finance Co Securities, and the International Trade and Industry Minister expects Malaysia’s export growth to increase from 3.5% to 6%-7% this year. Meanwhile, US stocks were up marginally overnight, but investors in the local market may stay on the sidelines pending the outcome of Bank Negara’s decision on interest rates tomorrow evening.
