Market Review
Water stocks in the spotlight. The FBM KLCI rose 3.03 pts to 1,312.48 on gains in selected key heavyweights and water-related stocks. Advancers outpaced decliners by 461 to 303, while 247 counters were unchanged, 336 untraded and 30 suspended. Among the key market news today include, a by-election will be held in Hulu Selangor following the death of MP – Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad, MAS pilot made a safe emergency landing after noting that the right engine was surging with vibrations, Loh & Loh bags RM828.3m Hulu Terengganu hydro contract, Maybank offers dividend reinvestment plan, LCL receives a RM41m demand note, KLIA walks away with two Skytrax awards, Gamuda net profit up 39% in 2Q and Kencana 2Q net profit increase 18%. Overnight, U.S. stocks were mostly lower, particularly in the last hour of trading, on a disappointing Treasury auction with the DJIA Index giving back some 90 pts of earlier gains to close up a marginal 5.06 pts to 10,841.21. Taking cue from the weak US market, we may see another lacklustre trading day in the local bourse today.
