Market Review

Higher in thin trading. Asian stocks surged yesterday with the Nikkei, Hang Seng Index and Kospi Index gaining more than 2%. The FBM KLCI rose at a milder pace of 9 points or 0.7% at 1266 on thin volume of 600m shares. Market breadth was overwhelmingly positive with 469 gainers against 196 losers. News headlines: Astro wins USD230m SIAC tribunal award against its former Indonesian JV partners, January vehicle sales rose 32.8% y-o-y, Telekom Malaysia announces its KPI for FY2010 and FY2012, corporate results from Telekom, Tan Chong Motors, Coastal Contracts, MAS,QL Resources, Unisem. With the US and Europe ending flat last night, Asian markets’ momentum from yesterday could still lift stocks higher today.
