Market Review

Closing higher. The FBM KLCI surged ahead and ended 9.23 points higher to 1,335.9 following the Dow Jones’ overnight recovery, fuelled by expectations of strong upcoming corporate results. Financial stocks led the recovery with the likes CIMB, Maybank and RHBCap all posting gains. Today’s corporate news include Tenaga Nasional Bhd reporting 2Q10 results that were broadly in line with our estimates, Splash has made a revised offer to the Federal government and the Selangor government for the takeover of water services in Selangor, EONCap has targeted to table HLBank’s offer to its shareholders by June, DRB-Hicom has received a letter of intent from the Government to manufacture armoured vehicles worth RM8bn, Bank Negara Malaysia proposes to set up a new company to provide 3rd party coverage and MAS has cancelled 46 flights due to the volcanic ash in Europe. We expect volatility in our local market to persist given the lack of fresh leads. The Dow closed marginally higher overnight on the back of strongresults from Apple Inc.
