Market Review

Closing marginally lower. The FBM KLCI was lower by 1.63 points at 1,360.45 last Friday on selling pressure on some heavyweights and lower liners. Bank Negara’s international reserves amounted to RM310.6bn as at 30 July. The Government has decided not to approve the proposal by MMC Corp Bhd to consolidate and rationalise the operations of Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Johor Port. Focus Point has secured a new date, 23 Aug, for its tentative listing on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia. Meanwhile, Wah Seong Corp Bhd has acquired another 20% stake in Petro-Pipe (Sabah) SB, which manufactures and sells spiral welded pipes for the O&G industry, for RM10.5m, thus raising its stake from 40% to 60%. Finally, the US markets and crude oil price closed lower on Friday as concerns on unemployment continued to weigh on the market. Crude oil price fell USD1.31 to USD80.70/barrel.
