Market Review

Closed marginally lower. The FBM KLCI closed a touch lower yesterday by 0.13 points to 1,434.1,  mirroring sentiments in the regional markets. Plantation stocks bucked the trend with IOI Corp finishing among the top gainers while heavyweights Maxis, Tenaga, CIMB and Maybank succumbed to slight profit taking.  Today’s corporate headlines are: Malaysian rating agencies MARC and RAM have downgraded 10 Selangor water related bonds, Astro is conducting IPTV trials with Time dotcom, Petronas Chemicals Group is likely to be listed at 15x PER, Tan Chong has secured the exclusive rights to assemble CKD buses from Xian Silver  Bus Corp, George Kent plans to bid for RM1bn worth of projects and Tanjong Capital has extended the closing date for acceptance of the takeover offer for Tanjong PLC by two weeks. Overnight the Dow gained 46 points after a successful auction of Portuguese government debt eased worries about Europe's financial  system. We expect trading on our local market to remain subdued today, given the extended week-end holiday. We wish all our Muslim readers ‘Selamat Hari Raya’, ‘Eid Al-Fitr’ and “Lebaran”.
