Market Review

Lower closing. The FBM KLCI fell 5.98 points to 1,466.97 pts as investors locked in their profits after the recent sharp gains with sharp last minute selling on Sime Darby and Tenaga. According to Proton adviser Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Proton has no plans to merge with other companies for now since the car manufacturer is profitable and is now restructuring. Meanwhile, Dataprep Holdings Bhd’s subsidiary has received a Letter of  Award from Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd for a cashless bus ticketing system for Rapid KL buses worth RM34.9m while HELP International is considering a secondary listing in Singapore. Finally, the US markets ended marginally higher on Friday on better-than-expected earnings from Oracle and Research in Motion but the gains were capped by a disappointing consumer sentiment report. Crude oil price also dipped USD0.91 to close at USD73.66.
