Market Review

Ending higher. The FBM KLCI inched up 3.64 points to close at 1,437.78 on half-day trading on the eve of Hari Raya. The July Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased 3.2% y-o-y following the 7.2% rise in the manufacturing index and 4.4% uptick in the electricity index. SP Setia Bhd’s subsidiary has purchased 259.1 acres in Tebrau for RM169.3m cash, Loh & Loh Corp Bhd said that its 60:40 JV company has received a letter of acceptance from Tenaga Nasional for the Hulu Terengganu Hydroelectric Project Lot CW2 worth RM828.3m while Mah Sing Group Bhd proposed to issue up to RM325m nominal value of 7-year redeemable convertible secured bonds and increase its authorised share capital to RM1.0bn comprising 2.0bn shares.  Finally, the US markets and crude oil price closed higher on Friday although markets were only up marginally as investors wavered between mildly upbeat data and ongoing fears about a slowing economy. Crude oil price jumped USD2.20 to USD76.45/barrel.
