Market Review

Taking a breather? The FBM KLCI shed 1.49 pts to 1,472.95 at the close on Wednesday on mild profit- taking, mainly in financial stocks, after two days of sharp rally. Losers outnumbered gainers by 416 to 299, while 301 counters were unchanged, 348 untraded and 40 suspended. Today’s key market news include Pemandu to unveil details on 131 projects worth USD444bn next week, DRB-HICOM not looking to acquire a stake in Proton, Bukit Bintang land parcel sold at record price of about RM7,209.80 per sq ft, Hovid reduces Carotech stake to 42.84%, Malaysia Smelting Corp proposes a secondary listing in Singapore, Bina Puri wins hotel job worth RM95.7m, National Bank of Abu Dhabi plans to set up bank in Malaysia and Maybank obtains USD500m offshore financing. Overnight, the DJIA rose 22.1 pts to 10,594.83 after US unemployment claims unexpectedly fell to 450,000 last week.
