Market Review

June beckons. The market was buoyed by buying interest on heavyweights which pushed the index up another 16 points yesterday. Some corporate headlines for today: (i) Affin has submitted its request to BNM to  commence talks with the major shareholders of EON Capital, (ii) MTD ACPI secures RM440m contract for  second Penang bridge and (iii) JTI urges the Government to rescind the deadline on the ban of 14-pack sticks.  At the close of the reporting season yesterday, AirAsia and Maxis and RHB Capital reported results that were in  line with estimates while Wah Seong’s numbers disappointed. External events will continue to dictate the  sentiment on regional markets today.
