Market Review

Slightly higher finish. The FBM KLCI was up slightly by 0.58 points at 1,326.45 pts on late bargain hunting on Friday. Bank Negara will allow foreign electronic brokers to offer their electronic broking platforms for  wholesale interbank trading in the Malaysian forex market starting 1 July. Petra Perdana plans to place 10% of new shares to Nam Cheong Dockyard SB to win a new strategic investor. MISC Bhd’s 100% subsidiary,  AET Inc Ltd purchases 4 Suezmax tankers from Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries Co Ltd costing USD67.8m each. MAHB has won a project to build, expand and operate the MALE International Airport in the Maldives with a concession period of 5 years. Finally, the US markets ended mix although financial shares rallied on relief that the new version of the Wall Street reform bill is less restrictive than had been expected. Nevertheless, crude oil price rose USD2.35 to USD78.86/barrel after the National Hurricane Center said that a tropical storm developing in the Caribbean has an 80% chance of forming into a tropical cyclone soon.
